Lil Wayne and Drake received plaques at the 2012 Cash Money Pre-Grammy party last night for their albums Tha Carter IV and Take Care. Weezy took the mic and gives praise to Erykah Badu, asks for a moment of silence for Whitney Houston, announces Christina Milian as the new member of Young Money, shouts out the YMCMB crew and then does a little rap taking shots at Kanye West and Jay-Z.

“I met a bad red bone, I took the bitch home, I asked her what she want to watch, she said surely not The Throne.”

Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” has been sampled a number of times in its 50-plus years of existence, but Kanye West took the 1966 track to a whole new level with Watch the Throne’s lead single “Otis.” Now, in a recent interview XXL, fellow Chi-Town beatsmith No. I.D. revealed that the Grammy-nominated track actually came about after he challenged Yeezy to flip a sample on the spot.

According to the veteran producer, the challenge came out of his initial dissatisfaction with his protege’s collaborative LP with Jay-Z due the numerous co-production credits. So No I.D. decided to put ‘Ye on the spot and tell him to produce one song by himself, thus resulting in the creation of “Otis.”

“I kinda didn’t agree with the direction that Watch the Throne was going because I felt like, ‘Y’all were two of the best that did it as far advancing, pushing the bar, the envelope of what Hip Hop can do and is,’” No I.D. explained. “And I felt like some of the songs were copping out a little to me. I get the co-productions, but how you gon’ do an album and you don’t go to the machine and do one beat by yourself? We have always sparked this challenge in each other and it bled into the world, so I just wanted to hit him in the stomach real quick. This is what you got? He was like, ‘No, that’s cool. I’m ’bout to do something.’”

He added, “I remember even at the time at the label they was like, ‘What the hell? No I.D. just came in and messed up our release schedule.’ We all amongst ourselves really are battling each other each and every minute of life, but it’s all in the spirit of advancement and the pursuit of dopeness is what I call it.”

After being courted by many record labels for months French Montana finally signed with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. However, he was on the fence with signing to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, but Ye’s lack of a phone mixed with French’s lack of email made for a complicated situation. French recently broke down their meeting in a recent interview with Angie Martinez.

“I met up with him one time and then I met up with him again. There were things that I was used to ’cause I was already moving. I’m like a money train. Kanye doesn’t have a phone. If you need to get in contact with Kanye, you have to email him. You can’t tell me how to do that. I don’t know how to use an email, so I guess me and you is never gonna talk. And I’ma put my career in your hands? He’s definitely talented and I felt like if I went there, we would have definitely made history.”

Things are on the fast track for French now, as he’s readying his Bad Boy debut for release in the next few months with plans to put New York hip-hop back on the map.

One of the incidents that helped launch Kanye West into superstardom was the infamous car crash he was involved in back in 2002.

We’ve all heard the music and seen the pictures. Now details about what really went down are starting to come out.

DJ Whoo Kid, who was with Kanye West before he got in the car that night, spoke about the incident and gave details about what let up to it:

“I said, ‘Yo, let’s go outside and get a car scene.’ I’m trying to get him out of there ’cause Luda’s in there [mimics Luda rapping]. Luda’s mad ill. I didn’t want Kanye to see that he’s a little crazy over the other beat. So under the car light I film him and he’s still rapping and going in like, ‘Killin’…Louis Vuitton…Versace….’ I don’t know, it was long, but two of the f—–g free styles he did is records he got out now. The Thing that’ bugged out is I filmed him after it was over like, ‘All right my n—a I’ll talk to you later,’ so he’s in the car heated and just peels off. I’m like, ‘Whew,’ and I go back in the studio and we get a phone call and they call 3H, cause you know 3H and Kanye’s really close.

3H came up to me and said, ‘Yo, Kanye just flipped his car. He flipped his s–t and he’s in the hospital right now.’ Once he did that then his mixtape came out and he showed his face. I think that if I hadn’t really angered him, or…I don’t know if he was really angry or maybe he drove too fast…I don’t know but we did film [it]. We have it documented.”

Crazy stuff here, folks. What’s your take on Kanye’s accident?

Kanye West can’t seem to catch a break.

Kanye managed to make a few enemies during his Big Day Out Festival performance in Australia over the weekend. The “All Of The Lights” rapper was 45 minutes late to his gig, and he pissed off Australian band Soundgarden.

To Kanye’s defense, it was raining something terrible in Australia, delaying his arrival. Kanye apologized for his tardiness, and made it up with his wonderful theatrical set.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell wasn’t too happy about Kanye’s delayed performance because Yeezy’s set was so loud it ended up disturbing their set on a different soundstage.

Chris Cornell told his fans:

“Sounds like children playing music there, retarded children. Retarded as in held back. There’s no other word for it.”
